Thoreau captures perfectly the experience of many in recovery. As we change internally, our external lives reflect our new relationship to HP, ourselves, our fellows, our work, our world, and our closets! As I have evolved in my sobriety, my fashion sense has simplified. Today my clothing choices are all about impact, ease, and comfort.
Several years ago, I saw a photograph in a magazine that caught my eye. It was a picture of a young woman wearing a yellow checked top with super clean lines. I learned the designer was Lotta Jansdotter, and I bought her wonderful book, Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style.
Jansdotter's book includes inspiration, instructions, and patterns for tops that can also be made as dresses, shorts that can be made as pants, a jacket that can be made as a coat, and patterns for a number of accessories.
With Jansdotter's designs, I have made dresses for every season, tops, shorts, pants, a cozy pink-check fleece coat, and two hands-free, over the shoulder bags.
The patterns are VERY EASY to follow, and the clothes transition seamlessly between home, work, and social life.

I am the same way with knitting as I am with sewing - I have a few styles I make on repeat. Twenty years ago I found a sweater pattern that I love. It is literally two squares front and back with sleeves. I love to make them in mohair! When you find what works for you style-wise, stick with it!
